ALPHABETZ – “Learn Today for Better Tomorrow” "Alphabetz" is a six-phase project organised by the Leo Club of the University of Colombo. This ongoing project which started last November was completed in six phases by April 2023. Also as Leos, from this project, we have decided to re-ignite the route of young children's English understanding, which was stolen due to several social and economic challenges which occurred in Sri Lanka in the recent past. As the Leo Club of the University of Colombo Leo District 306 C1, we opt for CP/M/ Laliambe Primary School for this endeavour because children in this school are from low-income families who found it difficult to learn. We chose kids in grades three, four, and five. Our purpose was to present them with knowledge that was not uniform. Brainiacs The Leo Club of the University of Colombo organized a business case study competition, "Braniacs" to provide students with a platform to apply their theoretical knowledge of business concepts to real-world scenarios and test their problem-solving and analytical skills. The project was conducted under the category of youth empowerment with the objective of "providing students with a platform to apply their theoretical knowledge of business concepts to real-world scenarios and test their problem-solving and analytical skills." This was created for undergraduates in Sri Lankan universities and students studying Advanced Level in Commerce stream. As the first step, a business case study competition was planned and applications were opened for school and university students. Miles of Smiles 4.0 phase 3 As Nelson Mandala said, "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." We all understand the value of education. During this economic downturn, many children have stopped attending school because they cannot pay the costs of the stationeries and are unable to afford the supplies they need. Therefore in this phase, we chose a school where students from low-income families and we decided to donate stationery to them. As Leos, we want to provide a solution and give back to the education of these students. We selected Diamond Jubilee School in Panadura. About 201 students are attending this school. When we first visited the principal of the school, we inquired about the necessary school supplies that students required. Miles of Smiles 4.0 phase 2 Children may benefit significantly from organized athletics in terms of their physical health, cognitive development, psychological health, and social interaction. Children who participate in sports develop emotional regulation skills and learn to use their negative emotions for positive purposes. Children who participate in athletics improve their resilience and self-confidence. Additionally, cricket is one of the most popular sports in Sri Lanka and has an enormous following. All youngsters dream to play cricket during their time in school, but some of them cannot realize their aspirations. Leo Club of the University Of Colombo is committed to doing good for society. We are committed to helping the people of the society by implementing various projects to ensure safety. Road accidents are a topic which is widely talking around the world today. About 1.3 million people die annually from road accidents in the world. The project "Sureki Hetak" is organized by the Leo Club of the University Of Colombo for the sixth time with the aim of reducing these accidents and securing the lives of pedestrians. Manusath Viyamana 2nd phase “Let your hopes, not your hurts, shape your future.” – Robert H. Schuller Sustainable Development Goals are currently the centre of attention for the entire world. In Sri Lanka, numerous initiatives are being carried out to meet sustainable development targets by 2030. The Manusath Viyamana 23 initiative was developed by the Leo Club of the University of Colombo as a further step toward accomplishing sustainable development objectives.
