Manusath Viyamana 2nd phase
“Let your hopes, not your hurts, shape your future.” – Robert H. Schuller
Sustainable Development Goals are currently the centre of attention for the entire world. In Sri Lanka, numerous initiatives are being carried out to meet sustainable development targets by 2030.
The Manusath Viyamana 23 initiative was developed by the Leo Club of the University of Colombo as a further step toward accomplishing sustainable development objectives. The Sustainable Development Goals are directly relevant to the Manusath Wiyamana initiative. The primary goal of this project is to lay the groundwork needed to improve the level of living for those living in rural districts of Sri Lanka. This undertaking was carried out in three stages.
Phase two of this project was started under sustainable goal 7. It aimed to ‘Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all.’ Under that, we identified several options and managed to select the most suitable option.
Accordingly, our team decided to provide electricity to a school that does not have electricity. We selected the WP/ HO Eswatta South Junior School as our project benefit school. The school is located in the Homagama region of the Western Province and they still have not been able to get electricity for it. Generally, many schools in that area have all the necessary facilities, but this school has not even received electricity, which is a basic requirement. Being a primary school, it has a significant number of students receiving primary education. Due to that, providing electricity to this school can be considered an essential task. The equipment and facilities which were needed to provide electricity for this school were provided through this project. It is hoped that this will help the students to continue their education easily and it will be a reason for their success in the future.
We completed the third phase of the Manusath Viyamana project successfully on the 04th of April 2023. According to the instructions given by the principal of the school, we facilitated the necessary equipment to provide electricity to the school. Finally, after that, we were able to provide electricity to the school.
We want to thank everyone who helped us to make the remarkable success of this project, including the school teachers and principal of the Eswatta South Junior School and Leo club members of the University of Colombo. Because the success of this phase has not been possible without the contribution and dedication of your all. Finally, we believe our effort will support us to achieve sustainable goals within Sri Lankan society.
