Arogya 6.0 - Phase I "Sinaha Kekulu"
“A helping hand from us to the healthy journey of a growing generation...”
It is a common saying that children are like flowers. Likewise, children are young people who are cared for by knowledgeable adults. Indeed, children of this growing age are the people who will take over the world of the future. We as adults are entrusted with the responsibility of handing over the nation to a group of healthy children. In order to give birth to a group of healthy children who are strong and free from diseases, it is mandatory to provide them with adequate and proper nutrition. There are a group of children who grow up well and are nurtured under the care of their parents, as well as helpless children who live in orphanages without their parents. With the present socio-economic situation, it is extremely difficult to take care of such children properly and keep them healthy. Therefore, as one of the social missions of the Leo Club of University of Colombo, it was decided to distribute nutritious food to the children living in orphanages. In
order to do that, we laid the foundation for the Arogya 6.0 project in December
2023. First of all, a suitable orphanage was selected to host the “Sinaha Kakulu”
program, the first stage of this project. Accordingly, Sucharithodaya
Children’s Home, Maharagama was selected for our first phase. After that, the
responsibility assigned to us was to find the necessary provisions for this
stage. For that, we made requests at the corporate level and as a response, the
Doctor Mobile joined hands with us. It is a matter of pleasure that the
institution has expressed its willingness to bear all the necessary costs for
our first phase.
The social task of distributing nutritious food items Sucharithodaya Children’s Home located in Maharagama, was successfully launched as the first phase of the Arogya 6.0 project on the 11th February 2024. We went there and handed over the nutritious goods to the matron. We didn’t get to see children as all of them weren’t in the home at that moment. We were able to spend some time with the matron at the children’s home premises, having a further discussion regarding their needs and requirements. It was our privilege as the Leo Club of University of Colombo to conduct such a program for the children of the growing generation who will bear the responsibility of the world in the future. Likewise, we wish them a healthy and happy future.
Leo Madusha Bawanthi.
