Sahurda Wiyamana - Phase II
"A Heartwarming Experience for the Elderly"
At the Leo Club of the University of Colombo, we believe in making a difference in the lives of those around us. Our continuous project, "Sahurda Viyamana," dedicated to enhancing the mental well-being of society, reached a heartwarming milestone with its second phase. This phase was a musical therapy program tailored specifically for elderly individuals, and it was a day filled with joy, connection, and healing.
On
the 31st of December 2023, our team gathered at the Sethma Elders Home in
Biyagama for a one-hour event that aimed to uplift the spirits of the elderly
residents. The venue, a residential facility for the elderly, provided a
comfortable and familiar setting, ensuring that our program would be
well-received by the participants.
The program was carefully designed with the intention of harnessing the healing power of music. We wanted to create an environment that not only entertained but also nurtured the mental and emotional well-being of the elderly attendees. Our selection of songs was curated to evoke emotions and memories, fostering a sense of connection and joy among the participants.
Throughout the event, our Leo Club members actively engaged with the elderly, singing songs together and building meaningful connections. This interactive session was not only about entertainment but also about strengthening the bonds between volunteers and the elderly community.
In addition to musical performances, we had a resource person present to provide insightful explanations about the songs. This added depth to the experience, allowing participants to appreciate the cultural significance of the music on a deeper level. To ensure that our attendees felt appreciated and cared for, we provided refreshments at the end of the event and offered small tokens of gratitude to each participant. These gestures were a small way of expressing our thanks for their presence and participation in the program.
As the event came to a close, we extended a heartfelt thank-you message to everyone involved in making the day a success. From the members of the Leo Club to the staff at the Sethma Elders Home and all those who contributed to the event's positive impact, we recognized the collective effort and support that made it possible.
In
conclusion, our second phase of the Sahurda Viyamana project was a testament to
the transformative power of music in enhancing the well-being of elderly
individuals. Through thoughtful planning and genuine compassion, we were able
to create a memorable experience that brought joy and comfort to all involved.
We look forward to continuing our journey of spreading kindness and making a
positive difference in our community through future phases of the project.
