Leo Infinity

On March 6, 2026, Leo Club of University of Colombo brought a wave of excitement and renewed energy to Aluthwewa Kanishta Vidyalaya in Hambegamuwa, Thanamalwila. As part of their ambitious sports initiative, Leo Infinity, the club organized a heartfelt donation event that aimed to reignite the sporting passion among young students who had been sidelined for far too long.

For the past four years, this rural school had been unable to host its annual sports meet. The reason? A complete lack of essential sports equipment. Talented kids with dreams of excelling in athletics, cricket, volleyball, and more were forced to sit on the sidelines or borrow gear from neighbouring schools just to get a taste of practice. It was a frustrating barrier, especially in a community where sports could be a gateway to confidence, teamwork, and even future opportunities. Spotting this critical gap, led by their dynamic president, Leo Miran Malinga. Under the banner of Leo Infinity, a massive project designed to uplift sports in underserved areas, they launched Phase 01: Leo Spirit.

The theme, “One Game, One Nation, Equal Opportunity,” perfectly captured the essence of the day. The club donated a wide array of sports equipment, from bats and balls to nets and hurdles, ensuring the students had everything they needed to train and compete. But they didn't stop there. Recognizing the importance of sustainability, they also provided a dedicated sports unit complete with storage facilities to keep the gear safe and organized. This thoughtful addition means the equipment won't gather dust or get damaged, allowing it to serve generations of students.

School principal Mr. Jagath Kumara, along with deputy principals, assistant principals, sports coaches, teachers, and a crowd of eager students, gathered to welcome Leo Club members. Smiles lit up faces as the donations were unveiled, kids couldn't wait to get their hands on the new items. The principal expressed deep gratitude, noting how this would transform their sports program. In a touching moment, the students and coaches promised to channel this support into action: they'd aim for zone-level competitions and bring home wins.

On 24th March 2026, the school successfully conducted its annual Sports Meet at the school grounds. We were pleased to support this event by providing certificates given to the students in recognition of their efforts and achievements

This initiative isn't just about equipment; it's about levelling the playing field. In a nation where sports can unite and empower, projects like Leo Spirit remind us that equal opportunities start with simple acts of kindness. Leo Club's efforts have sparked a revival, proving that with the right tools, every child can chase their dreams on an even pitch.
