ELICIT: Seek Light, Gain Insight

ELICIT: Seek Light, Gain Insight
A Research & Development Initiative by Leo Club of University of Colombo

The Leo Club of University of Colombo successfully carried out ELICIT, a Research & Development project focused on youth volunteerism in Sri Lanka. Guided by the theme “Seek Light, Gain Insight,” the project aimed to explore the experiences, challenges, and future of youth volunteering.

As Leos, we actively engage in service activities and leadership roles. Through ELICIT, we took a step back to better understand our role as youth volunteers, reflecting on our impact, motivations, and challenges. This initiative allowed us to view volunteerism not just as an activity, but as a meaningful journey of growth.

The project was officially handed over on 24th March 2026 at the Faculty of Management and Finance, in the presence of the District President and Vice President of Leo District 306 D6.

ELICIT focused on exploring youth engagement in volunteer work using simple research methods such as surveys and reflective insights. The findings showed that Sri Lankan youth are highly passionate about volunteering, but also face challenges such as lack of support, recognition, and structured opportunities.

This project highlighted the importance of combining research with service. By identifying both strengths and gaps in volunteerism, it opened the path for more effective and sustainable initiatives in the future.

Overall, ELICIT became more than just a project, it was a platform for reflection, awareness, and growth, strengthening the identity of youth volunteers within the Leo movement.
