Project Sathkara The objective of this project is to enhance the quality of education and encourage reading habits among students by donating books to the libraries of Sri Sumangala College, Iriyawetiya and Bandaranayake College, Hunupitiya. By addressing the need for improving literacy rates, promoting mental health, and fostering personal development in the targeted schools, this project aims to make a positive impact on the students and the community as a whole. The implementation of the project “Sathkara” involved several steps. Club members collected books for the project through extensive sharing and networking, garnering support from various individuals who contributed to the book donations. They worked tirelessly to sort, pack, and transport the collected books to the selected schools. Sri Sumangala College, Iriyawetiya and Bandaranayake College, Hunupitiya were chosen based on their need for additional library resources and the potential impact on students' education. The

DiabCure 5.0 The project DiabCure 5.0 was organized by the Leo Club of University of Colombo in this leoistic year for the fifth consecutive time. The primary aim of the project is to prevent diabetes in the community. Therefore, the project was conducted in two successful and impactful phases. The first phase was a diabetes prevention awareness session that was implemented at Sri Bodhirukkarama Viharaya, Nugegoda, on 19th of February 2023 from 11.00 AM onwards. The targeted audience was teenagers, or Dhamma School students who will be the future generation of society. The session was conducted by Dr. Dimuth de Silva, a cardiologist and surgeon, in a very impressive manner and in clear language to easily grab the knowledge. The major topics of discussion throughout the workshop included what diabetes is, its symptoms, prevention strategies, and what to do and what not to do for a patient with diabetes. Alert 6.0 3rd Phase According to estimates from the IARC Global Cancer Observatory, in 2020 almost 280 000 children and adolescents (aged 0–19 years) were diagnosed with cancer worldwide and almost 110 000 children died from cancer. After 15 years of studying, it is concluded that pediatric cancer incidence rates are increasing in Sri Lanka in parallel with global statistics. Because of major treatment advances in recent decades, 85% of children with cancer now survive 5 years or more. As we are a third-world country, our survival rate is low due to poor economic status. Each pediatric cancer patient needs different medications according to their cancer type. Some medicines are so rare to find. As a government hospital, Maharagama Apeksha Hospital is unable to find all the medicines with the lack of donations these days due to the economic crisis. Alert 6.0 2nd Phase Pediatric cancer patients may need blood products regularly during chemotherapy, surgery or treatment for complications as cancer and cancer treatments can put patients at risk for low red cell and platelet counts in the blood. In fact, according to the Red Cross, five units of blood are needed every minute to help someone going through cancer treatment. Every pediatric patient with some cancer like Leukemia needs blood from outsiders cause they are not able to do it on their own body. So, we aim to help with their treatments as so many patients need to get blood from outside to live. And it will help them to live even one day. As the 1st part of Alert 6.0 2nd phase, we conducted a blood donation program at the Faculty of Technology University of Colombo on the 27th of February 2023. “මතින් තොර හෙටක්” - Phase 3 The Leo Club of the University of Colombo “මතින් තොර හෙටක්” project was a powerful initiative aimed at raising awareness about the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse in the community. This project was organized into three phases, and the final phase took place on the 27th of April 2023. The volunteers of the Leo Club posted the posters in public places throughout Colombo and Galle cities. It includes public places such as police stations, stadiums, and other areas where they would be seen by a large number of people. These posters were carefully designed to convey a message that was both thought-provoking and impactful. They urged people to decide to be free of alcohol and drugs and to choose a path that would lead them towards a brighter future. “මතින් තොර හෙටක්” - Phase 2 Step into the world of “මතින් තොර හෙටක්”, a project that brings a glimmer of hope to those who have undergone rehabilitation and are seeking to reintegrate into society. The second phase of this three-phased project, organized by the Leo Club of the University of Colombo, took place on April 26th at the Navajeevana Madhyapa Hada Seva Rehabilitation Center, from 9 am to 11 am. The guest speaker for this event was the esteemed Mr. N.C.W. Jayasekara. With his vast knowledge and expertise, he delivered a valuable lecture on the ins and outs of starting and running small businesses. It was an enlightening experience for all those in attendance, and Mr. Jayasekara's insights were invaluable to those seeking to re-establish themselves in society. “මතින් තොර හෙටක්” - Phase 1 In present-day Sri Lanka, Drug addiction is a main social problem. Therefore, many social and health problems occur because of this harmful habit. These days most teenagers are using different types of drugs. To save our young people from this situation Leo Club of the University of Colombo organized a project called “මතින් තොර හෙටක්” which included three phases. As the 1st phase of this project, we organized a session about drugs and their bad impacts. This session was held on the 25th of April, 2023 at Galle / Pilana Vidyorthodaya National School. The resource person in this session was Senior Police Officer Ms. Dilrukshi Algewaththa. There were over 175 students in this session who are studying in grades 9, 10, and 11. At first, the resource person introduced what drugs are and how widespread they are in Sri Lanka.
