Second phase of the Safe Step Project  On the 3rd of March 2026, from 8.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m. Leo Club of University of Colombo successfully completed the second phase of the Safe Step Project " safe youth " at KE/Daranagama National School, Siyambalape. The ‘safe steps’ project is a comprehensive three- stages initiative aimed at minimizing crimes and accidents in our society, this phase focused on cybercrime and self- defense, especially for grade 11, 12 and 13 school students. In an era where safety concerns both physical and digital are at an all-time high, taking proactive steps to educate our youth is more important than ever. Project Off-Grid SDG Lens in Action – Phase 02 The SDG Lens in Action initiative was the second phase of the project Off-Grid. The whole project was aimed at spotlighting the less focused sustainable development goals, and the second phase of it specifically focused on actively implementing initiatives to achieve the less focused SDGs. To implement the initiative, we collaborated with several Leo Clubs around the world. So, all partnered clubs carried out different initiatives starting from the 1 st of March to the 15 th of March, with each country focusing on different, less focused SDGs based on their local needs and priorities. During this period, a series of impactful initiatives were carried out across the globe, reflecting a shared commitment to creating meaningful change. Leo Infinity On March 6, 2026, Leo Club of University of Colombo brought a wave of excitement and renewed energy to Aluthwewa Kanishta Vidyalaya in Hambegamuwa, Thanamalwila. As part of their ambitious sports initiative, Leo Infinity, the club organized a heartfelt donation event that aimed to reignite the sporting passion among young students who had been sidelined for far too long. For the past four years, this rural school had been unable to host its annual sports meet. The reason? A complete lack of essential sports equipment. Talented kids with dreams of excelling in athletics, cricket, volleyball, and more were forced to sit on the sidelines or borrow gear from neighbouring schools just to get a taste of practice.   Plant a Hope 8.0 – Phase 2: Ocean Guard Marine and Mangrove Ecosystem Protection Program Plant a Hope 8.0 successfully completed its second phase, “Ocean Guard,” on March 21 st at Kirama Oya and Medaketiya Beach in Tangalle. This phase focused on two core activities: installing a floating waste barrier at the mouth of Kirama Oya and cleaning Medaketiya Beach. The day began with the beach cleanup. Leos from our club, Scouts and Scout Leaders from Polommaruwa Model School and their parents, Environment Cadets from Weeraketiya Rajapaksha Central College, and the cleaning staff of the Urban Council of Tangalle all took part. Medaketiya Beach is a popular destination for tourists who visit to sunbathe, surf, and relax. Project Diriya Pranama – Phase 3: “Prabhaswara ( ප්‍රභාස්වර)”           On 23rd March 2026, Leo Club of University of Colombo successfully completed the third phase of Project Diriya Pranama titled “Prabhaswara” by donating essential educational materials to the students of the Ratmalana Blind School. This phase of the project focused on providing essential learning resources to support the academic journey of visually impaired children and to ease the challenges they face in their daily studies. Understanding the importance of accessible education, we have donated braille papers, braille slates, and voice recorders to the school. Braille papers and slates are fundamental tools that enable students to read and write independently, while recorders play a vital role in helping them capture lessons and revise subjects through audio learning. Therefore, through our second phase, we introduced soap production to the rural population as an easy self-employment opportunity that allows entrepreneurs to conquer the local market.
