One Drop 6.0 - Phase II

In a world where energy consumption and its impact on the environment are pressing concerns, education and awareness play crucial roles in shaping sustainable habits. Recently, the Leo Club of University of Colombo organized an enlightening awareness program focused on "Accurate Energy Consumption, Energy Conservation, and the Use of Renewable Energy" as the second phase of the project “One Drop 6.0”. The event took place in Homagama Central College on 6th March 2024 from 8.30 am to 10.30am. The initiative aimed to foster a deeper understanding of energy dynamics while advocating for eco-friendly practices.

The event commenced with an interactive session, where students and Leo members were introduced to the concept of accurate energy consumption. Through engaging presentations and real-life examples, participants learned about the sources of energy, their usage patterns, and the environmental implications associated with conventional energy sources.

The highlight of the event was the insightful discourse delivered by Mr. Indunil Sandaruwan Ranwella, a distinguished lecturer from the Department of Geography at the University of Kelaniya. His expertise shed light on the importance of sustainable energy practices and their impact on our planet's future. As the program drew to a close, students left with more than just knowledge—they left with a renewed sense of purpose and empowerment. Armed with insights into accurate energy consumption, energy conservation, and renewable energy, they were equipped to make informed choices that would positively impact the environment and future generations.

The distribution and display of leaflets played a pivotal role in reaching our target audience. Placing them strategically in high-traffic areas such as classrooms, corridors, and common areas ensured maximum visibility and engagement. Students and staff alike had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with key concepts and foster discussions surrounding energy conservation and sustainability.

As the awareness session came to an end, the vice principle of Homagama Central College took a moment to express her sincere gratitude to all those who played a vital role in ensuring the success of this meaningful event along with Mr. Indunil Sandaruwan Ranwella, all participants. In conclusion, the awareness program served as a beacon of inspiration, empowering students to become agents of change in the journey towards a more sustainable future.
