Raising Awareness: Combating Diabetes During Pregnancy
Pregnancy is a time of joy, anticipation, and excitement for expecting mothers. However, for some, it can also come with added challenges, especially when diabetes is thrown into the mix. Gestational diabetes, a condition that develops during pregnancy, not only affects the health of the mother but also has implications for the well-being of the unborn child. The project kicked off with an event at Mathegoda Medical
Center, starting at 9:00 am. Pregnant mothers, medical professionals, and
concerned individuals gathered to learn, share, and support one another in this
crucial endeavor. Dr. Padmaraja's expertise and guidance were instrumental in
shaping the project, ensuring that it was comprehensive and impactful.
The event featured informative sessions that covered topics such
as managing diabetes during pregnancy, nutrition tips, exercise routines, and
the importance of regular check-ups. Interactive workshops provided attendees
with informative leaflets and strategies to navigate their pregnancy journey
while managing diabetes effectively.
In addition to the educational aspect, the event fostered a sense of community and support among participants. Expectant mothers had the opportunity to connect with each other, share their experiences, and offer encouragement. The presence of Dr. Padmaraja underscored the importance of collaboration between medical professionals and patients in addressing health challenges.
As the event drew to a close, participants left with a newfound sense of empowerment and determination. Armed with knowledge and support, they are better equipped to navigate their pregnancy journey while managing diabetes effectively. The project at Mathegoda Medical Center is not just a one-time event but a sustained effort to raise awareness and support pregnant mothers facing diabetes.
The project launched at Mathegoda Medical Center on March 2nd,
2024, with the support of Dr. S.A. Danuka Padmaraja, is a testament to the
power of community, education, and collaboration in combating diabetes during
pregnancy. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of expectant mothers
and their precious little ones.
In a bid to raise awareness of the intersection of diabetes and eye health, we recently unveiled an informative banner at the esteemed Sri Lanka National Eye Hospital. This initiative aims to educate patients about the risks posed by diabetes to their vision and the preventive measures they can take.
