Project Suwasara – Nourishing Health, Empowering Communities.   Continuing the impactful journey of Arogya 7.0, Project Suwasara was successfully carried out on the 28th of April 2025 at the Gangabada Community Hall in Paliyagoda. With a focused mission to uplift public health standards, this initiative targeted vulnerable communities residing in slums and line houses. The project tackled pressing concerns such as food safety, maternal and child nutrition, and overall health awareness. It was designed not just to provide knowledge, but to empower families with the tools and habits needed to build healthier futures. The day’s proceedings began with a welcome speech from the project chairperson, emphasizing the importance of safe food practices and nutritious eating. Sixty beneficiaries were then registered and had their basic health indicators recorded, including height, weight, and blood pressure. A Public Health Inspector (PHI) led an engaging session on how improper food h...

Arogya 7.0 - Phase 02

The vibrant spirit of community engagement was palpable in Padukka on April 22nd, 2025, as the Leo Club of University of Colombo rolled out Phase 2 of their impactful ආරෝග්‍යා 7.0 project, aptly named "පෝෂණීය හෙටක්" – A Healthier Tomorrow. This initiative wasn't just about distributing seeds; it was about cultivating knowledge, fostering self-reliance, and nurturing a healthier future for the residents of Padukka. Imagine families receiving not just the potential for fresh, nutritious food, but also the know-how to bring that potential to life. That's precisely what Arogya 7.0 achieved. Each participating household was provided with eight diverse varieties of vegetable seeds and a guava sapling, a tangible starting point for their own home garden. But the Leos understood that the gift of seeds is only as valuable as the knowledge to cultivate them. That's why they went the extra mile, offering comprehensive guidance on planting, nurturing, and harvesting their ne...

Alert 8.0 - 3rd Phase - Husmata Idak Easing the Burden of Pediatric Cancer through Compassion and Care In country like Sri Lanka, pediatric cancer is not just a diagnosis. It is a long, exhausting journey that tests the limits of physical, emotional, and financial endurance. Children and their families, especially those from rural and underserved areas, often face heartbreaking choices: whether to buy life-saving medicine, pay for food, or secure transport to the hospital. For many, these are not isolated decisions, but daily struggles. The dire need for continuous support systems both medical and emotional cannot be overstated. In light of this reality, Leo Club of University of Colombo launched Phase 3, the last phase of Project Alert 8.0, titled “Husmata Idak”, a name that beautifully translates to "A Space to Breathe." The initiative was born from a desire to offer more than just momentary relief to provide genuine, lasting support to young cancer patient...

A Tank of Hope : Supporting Communities in Crisis On the 29th of April 2025, Leo Club of University of Colombo continued its impactful journey through the Survival project with its second phase, a heartfelt initiative to support drought-affected communities. Falling under the category of Disaster Management and Prevention, this phase focused on Supipi Pre-School in Karuwala Gahawatta, Maho, where access to clean water had become a pressing concern due to ongoing dry weather conditions. Our team began the journey aboard the Yal Devi train from Pettah at 5:55 a.m., reaching Maho around 9:00 a.m. We then traveled to the preschool and arrived around 10:00 a.m. with our donation, a large water tank meant to provide sustainable water storage for the children and staff of the preschool. The donation was more than a mere gesture.it was a symbol of support for a community struggling to meet its basic needs. The joy on the children’s faces as they welcomed us was truly heartwarming. ...

Plant a hope 7.0 -phase 03           Planting Hope, Cultivating Change Leo Club of University of Colombo took another meaningful step forward through 3rd phase of Project Plant a Hope 7.0 “Bloom of Hope”, conducted on 1st of May. This phase focused on spreading knowledge about organic composting and supporting self-employed individuals in agriculture. We visited Wasana Compost Institute, located at Village Knowledge Center in Marawila, where we were warmly welcomed by Ms. W. Shrimali Wasana Fernando, an inspiring woman who runs her own small business making and selling organic compost. Certified and trusted by the community, she has built her business from the ground up and now shares her knowledge with others. With the help of three resource persons, we held a workshop where participants learned how to make organic compost using the Thai “sandwich” method, a special layering technique done directly on land. Ms. F...

Leo Blaze'25 - Phase 01

Image
Leo Blaze’25    A Game Full of Hope: Empowering Young Dreams at Hithokadawala        On April 25th, Leo Blaze’25 officially started its journey with the launch of its first phase, "Hand to Hand," at Hithokadawala Secondary School, Maho. This was a big moment, beginning a mission to give not just sports equipment but also opportunities, hope, and strength to the next generation. The idea behind "Hand to Hand" is simple but powerful: every child deserves the chance to play, train, and dream big. Sadly, many children cannot follow their dreams because they don’t have the basic things that they need. But those children have national-level sports skills and are eager to progress through sports. Seeing this need, our team worked hard to fill the gap by donating important sports items and organizing a fitness session to help build the students’ strength,...

Project Diabcure 7.0 - Phase 02

In a world where deadlines, lectures, and endless caffeine often rule university life, health usually takes a back seat—especially when it comes to silent conditions like diabetes. But on April 28th, 2025, something powerful happened at Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Colombo. The usual buzz of academic chatter was joined by the hum of medical equipment and warm greetings from volunteers as Project Diabcure 7.0’s second phase, GlucoTrack, came to life. Organized with precision, passion, and a purpose, this phase focused on early detection and awareness of diabetes within the university community. Students, lecturers, cleaning staff, and security officers all stood in the same line—not for grades or promotions, but for health. It was a moment where the hustle paused, and awareness stepped in. The screening camp, held in collaboration with Forte Diagnostics Laboratory and guided by the expertise of Dr. Lahiru Madhushan, turned an ordinary Monday into a milestone of trans...

Sureki Hetak 8.0 - Phase 03

Image
Towards a Safer Journey through Awareness and Action In a world where one's distraction for a moment behind the wheel can turn life upside down, "සුරැකි හෙටක් 8.0 – Phase 03" did not become an event; it became a mission to save lives. It was a project of the Leo Club University of Colombo that took its socially successful initiative to the streets of Haldanduwana on April 30, 2025, with one and only strong objective—to promote road safety through education and awareness.  Structured between 8.00 A.M. and 2.00 P.M. at St. Mary's Church, Haldanduwana, covering the town, this third phase was a step in the right direction of confidence in the drama that was unfolding in Sureki Hetak. With over fifty energetic volunteers involved, the program was to develop a culture of commuter politeness where every pedestrian, cyclist, and driver is a considerate part of road risk minimization. The day was full of interactive sessions on traffic rules and road signs, the purpose of ...

Empowering Young Minds with Mindfulness and Digital Wisdom In an era where the minds of children are increasingly burdened by both internal pressures and external influences, Sureki Hetak 8.0 launched its second phase with a visionary purpose “මානසික මට්ටමින් ශක්තිමත් දරුවන් පිරිසක් බිහි කරනු වස්!” This initiative wasn’t just a program; it was a movement toward building inner strength and digital responsibility in the hearts of young learners. Focused on Dhamma school students above Grade 6, the phase began with a serene yet powerful session on meditation and mindfulness, led by Chief Incumbent Atiyawala Sugunadhamma Thero. In a world that frequently pulls children in numerous directions, the session provided a moment of stillness, a gentle invitation to breathe, pause, and be present. Through carefully guided practices, students learned how to manage anxiety, recognize their emotions, and center themselves during moments of stress. It was more than just a lesson in...

The third phase of this initiative, titled "පෝෂණීය නව මගක්", was dedicated to implementing programs that address hunger across all age groups and raise awareness about healthy lifestyles, with a special focus on combating malnutrition among school children. Project ID - Phase 01

Restoring Dignity Through Sanitation The town of Weeraketiya, located at the heart of five connecting junctions, functions as a major transportation crossroads in the region. Its central bus stand is a lifeline for hundreds of commuters each day, with buses departing to numerous cities across the country. However, despite its significance as a transit hub, one critical aspect of public service had long been neglected, access to clean, safe, and functioning sanitary facilities. The previous washroom infrastructure, aged and poorly maintained, had deteriorated into an unusable and unsanitary condition. The walls were stained, Stained doors, water was irregular, and cleanliness was virtually nonexistent. For many, especially women, children, and the elderly, the situation posed not just inconvenience but distress and discomfort. This reality presented a clear and urgent call for action. Understanding the importance of sanitation as a basic human right and a foundation...
