A Tank of Hope : Supporting Communities in Crisis
On the 29th of April 2025, Leo Club of University of Colombo continued its impactful journey through the Survival project with its second phase, a heartfelt initiative to support drought-affected communities. Falling under the category of Disaster Management and Prevention, this phase focused on Supipi Pre-School in Karuwala Gahawatta, Maho, where access to clean water had become a pressing concern due to ongoing dry weather conditions. Our team began the journey aboard the Yal Devi train from Pettah at 5:55 a.m., reaching Maho around 9:00 a.m. We then traveled to the preschool and arrived around 10:00 a.m. with our donation, a large water tank meant to provide sustainable water storage for the children and staff of the preschool.

The donation was more than a mere gesture.it was a symbol of support for a community struggling to meet its basic needs. The joy on the children’s faces as they welcomed us was truly heartwarming. We spent quality time interacting with the adorable little ones, who showered us with their innocent smiles and pure excitement. Their enthusiasm gave new meaning to our efforts, reminding us why projects like Survival are vital.
By 12:00 p.m., after heartfelt conversations and shared moments, we bid farewell to the preschool, leaving behind more than just a water tank,we left hope. The gratitude shown by the staff and children made it clear that this small act had made a big difference. The second phase of the Survival project reaffirmed our commitment to standing with vulnerable communities during times of crisis. It was a reminder that even simple acts of kindness can create lasting change, especially when driven by compassion, unity, and the desire to serve.
