Thirtha – Phase 03: “සිප් සයුරු”
On April 28, 2026, from 9.00 a.m. onwards, the Leo Club of University of Colombo successfully carried out the third phase of its signature project, Thirtha, titled “සිප් සයුරු,” in collaboration with the Lions Club of Oruwala. Implemented as a Lions Service Together Project, this phase reflected the shared commitment of both Leos and Lions toward uplifting communities through compassionate service. The program was held at Nimala Maria Primary School, Mirissankotuwa, Lunuwila, with the aim of supporting the educational and social well-being of Grade 1–5 students from underserved backgrounds. At an age where curiosity blossoms and dreams begin to form, these children reminded everyone present that even small acts of kindness can create lasting impact.
Recognizing education as the foundation of a brighter future, Phase Three of the Thirtha Project was designed to provide both learning resources and emotional encouragement. As part of the initiative, 28 students received essential books and stationery, easing financial burdens on families while motivating children to engage confidently in their studies.
Adding warmth to the day, the Leo Club also had the opportunity to celebrate the Sinhala and Tamil New Year with the children under the theme “Senehase Negam.” Traditional Avurudu games and activities filled the school with laughter, unity, and cultural pride, creating moments of joy and togetherness that will be fondly remembered.
A special highlight was an interactive session conducted by Mrs. Sandamali Perera, Early Childhood Development Officer at the Nattandiya Divisional Secretariat. Her child-friendly session focused on early childhood development, positive behavior, and the value of education, encouraging children to express themselves freely while learning important life lessons.
In conclusion, Thirtha – Phase 03: “සිප් සයුරු” marked another meaningful milestone in the project’s journey. Through the collective efforts of the Leo Club of University of Colombo, the Lions Club of Oruwala, and community stakeholders, the initiative successfully contributed to nurturing young minds and strengthening the foundation of primary education. With little hands holding big dreams, this phase reaffirmed the belief that when learning is guided by love, the future shines brighter.
