All three phases of "Kruthaguna" were done with a huge success

Kruthaguna is the project under the category of Senior Citizens Development. The main aim of this project is to enrich the lives of senior citizens in Sri Lanka by way of developing their mental, physical & social wellbeing. Kruthguna was conducted under 3 phases during the month of December 2019.  As the 1st phase of the project, elderly in an elder home in Colombo was taken to worship the Temple of Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy to help them gain mental happiness and spiritual wellness. A dhamma sermon and chanting of pirith was also held to enable them to gain inner peace and mental relaxation. Overall this phase was held successfully which helped the elderly to improve their social interaction, and thus gain happiness by bonding with Loes of University of Colombo. 4th phase of "Sandwani" was done successfully at the Walikada Prison

Phase 4 of “Sandhwani 2019/20” was organized by the Leo Club of University of Colombo. This was conducted in the Welikada Prison on 27th December 2019. Ultimate objective of the event was to provide a mental relaxation to the prisoners who have being isolated and branded by the society . Although they are marginalized as criminals, they are often repentant of their crimes. They have become emotionally weak due to alienation and wrongdoing. We identified the mentality of those people and tried to heal their hearts with music . We successfully executed a music therapy program and gee rasa windana program with the collaboration of Mr.Kasun Muramudali and Mr.Aththanayaka M.Herath. We were able to give them a mental relaxation through different music therapy exercises. Regardless of the effort we put our intention is to make a better world with beautiful souls who can spread love and peace.

3rd phase of "Sandwani"-Vajira Sri Children’s Development Centre

Phase 3 of “ Sandhwani 2019/20 ” was organized by the Leo Club of University of Colombo. This was conducted in the Vajira Sri Children’s Development Centre, Kotte on 30 th of November 2019. Objective of the event was to minimize the stress and isolation that these children have on their minds. As they were not fortune to feel the love and affection from their beloved parents they were not much sensitive to feelings and emotions. Further they feel themselves as orphans where there is no one which seek the value in their lives. We successfully executed a music therapy program and gee rasa windana program with the collaboration of Mr.Kasun Muramudali and Miss.Bhagya Herath. We were able to give them a mental relaxation through different music therapy exercises. This was a little effort we put to extend the arms of fraternity to enhance the lives of these innocent children and to encourage them to develop a bright future.

Prarthana is the project which was implemented during the month of November under the category of the Peace, Religious & Cultural Activities. With the intention of spreading love, peace, and unity among our communities as undergraduates, put forward another step of becoming the peace bearers to our communities by continuing the project Prarthana. Under the first phase, we successfully organized a workshop on 20th of November by aiming to give better understand about overcoming language barriers between languages for grade 10 students of R/ Royal College Ratnapura. This valuable awareness programme was hosted by Mr.Gulzar Ahmed who is a trainer at Ladies’ College and Mr Shafni Nizam who is a counsellor and motivational speaker. Genesis - The orientation programme

Genesis 2019 the  orientation programme of leo club of university of colombo was conducted on 9th of November from 8 a.m. onwards at Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Colombo with the participation of District President Leo Shathika Karunarathna as the Chief guest and Multiple District President Leo Dilruk Tissera as the guest of honor. The orientation programme was conducted for new members of the club who recruited for the leoistic year 2019/20. For the leoistic year we recruited 180 new members and we conducted the orientation programme with the purpose of Improve leadership skills through an interactive session conducted by Lion Tuan Roshan Latiff and develop soft skills of the members such as communication skills, team work, sociability and interpersonal skills. Waste Management has become an unquestionable issue in the current context.   Improper disposals and carelessness has created many forms of consequences and inconveniences to the society as a whole.  Our country is currently facing a massive problem regarding disposing of waste. The reason to this is not that Sri Lanka does not have rigid rules and regulations but, the insufficient knowledge and awareness among the community at large. So the Leo club of University of Colombo has undertaken the project Eco – Clan which comes under the category of “Waste Management and Responsible Consumption” as a part contribution to address this issue.
