පුරවර සරසවි සූර්ය මංගල්‍යය'25

On April 23, 2025, the University of Colombo Leo Club successfully organized its annual Sinhala and Tamil New Year event, "පුරවර සරසවි සූර්ය මංගල්‍යය‘25" Leos, Students and special guests gathered to celebrate the New year of Sri Lankan culture at the event, which was held in front of the Faculty of Education. The event was a wonderful way to celebrate the upcoming year in harmony and joy, complete with vibrant decorations, happy faces, and exciting activities. Leo Praveen Kavinda, the Region Chairperson of Region 01; Leo Lion Ravindi Hettiarachchi PFLM, the Chief Region Chairperson; and District President: Leo Nisal Dulmith FLM, the District President, were our honoured chief guests. Our celebration was genuinely unique because of their encouragement and assistance. Their involvement and admiration for the young people's efforts to preserve our cultural legacy was encouraging.

A lovely opening ceremony, the lighting of the oil lamp, boiling the milk, and a delectable New Year's breakfast marked the start of the day. This was how the New Year was traditionally started. The venue was then filled with excitement and vitality as the Organizing Committee performed a special dance. Everyone was excited to play the Awurudu games and take part in the celebration, which added to the event's spirit.


Throughout the day, many traditional New Year's games were played, all of which were enjoyable and full of friendly rivalry. These included the thrilling Balloon Dance, Guess the Hidden Guest, Carrying the Lemon on a Spoon, and Counting Gooseberry Seeds. The games also featured the well-known Musical Chairs, the Best Laugh Competition, and Passing the Hat. With additional entertaining games like Eyeing the Elephant, New year Bun Eating Contest, and another round of Best Laugh, the fun continued. The Running Through the Village relay event marked the end of the day, and teams displayed excellent camaraderie and teamwork.


As a thank you for their participation and excitement, the winners of each game received unique presents at the conclusion of the event. Their smiles added to the event's memorability. The University of Colombo Leo Club is pleased to have planned such a fun and significant event. These gatherings not only preserve our customs but also beautifully unite people to share joy and culture. We appreciate everyone who came, and we hope to celebrate many more times in the future!
