Sathkara – Phase 03: Smile
Colouring Lives, Creating Connections
At the University of Colombo, community service is deeply rooted in a commitment to creating meaningful change. Continuing this spirit of service, the Leo Club of the University of Colombo, in collaboration with the Oruwala Lions Club, proudly carried out phase 3 under the slogan "නවමු රටකට මනුදම් මෙහෙවරක්". This phase marked another powerful milestone in a three-phase initiative focused on uplifting lives through education, healthcare, and compassionate outreach.

Following the success of its previous phases supporting underprivileged schoolchildren and enhancing medical facilities Phase 03 shifted its focus to another important segment of our community: the elderly. On April 22, 2025, the project team visited Mahameth Ma-Piya Sewana Elders Home, Pokunuwita, Horana to spend a day filled with kindness, creativity and heartfelt human connection. A major highlight of this phase was the painting of the elders' home, aimed at transforming the physical space into one that radiates warmth and care. Not just to beautify the environment, but to create a space that feels vibrant and appreciated by those who live there.
Sathkara was not merely about service, it was about connection, respect and gratitude. It served as a powerful reminder of our collective responsibility to care for the elders who paved the way for our present and future.
The Leo Club of University of Colombo extends sincere appreciation to the Oruwala Lions Club, the university administration and all the dedicated volunteers whose efforts made this phase a success. With all three phases now completed, the Sathkara Project stands as a shining example of what can be achieved through unity, compassion and purpose. As we look back at each phase, our mission remains steadfast: to uplift lives and build a more compassionate society one act of service at a time.
