Arogya 6.0 - Phase II "Suwasara Program"

A helping hand from us to the healthy journey of a growing generation...”

Following the successful completion of the first phase of our transformative project Arogya 6.0, we eagerly embarked on the implementation of our second phase, aptly named ‘Suwasara’. Recognizing the alarming rate of food wastage plaguing our communities, especially within educational settings, we resolved to address this issue head-on by instilling a culture of food safety and waste reduction among schoolchildren. After careful consideration, Buwanekaba Maha Vidyalaya, situated in Maharagama, was selected as the ideal venue for our intervention. With the gracious approval of the school administration, we commenced our program armed with the remaining contributions generously provided by Doctor Mobile for the first phase.

In our quest for excellence, we enlisted the expertise of Mr. Thimira Amarasinghe, a distinguished lecturer from the Department of Basic Science and Social Sciences at the Faculty of Nursing, University of Colombo. Recognized for his prowess in engaging with young minds, Mr. Amarasinghe graciously accepted our invitation to spearhead this endeavour. On the 5th of March, amidst eager anticipation, our program unfolded within the premises of Buwanekaba Maha Vidyalaya. A total of 43 out of 45 Grade 6 students actively participated in our meticulously crafted awareness session, which commenced promptly at 8:30 a.m. and extended for a duration of one and a half hours. During this enlightening session, students were enlightened on the intrinsic value of food, educated on the identification of expired consumables, and sensitized to the potential health hazards associated with their consumption. Mr. Amarasinghe, with his expertise, elucidated preventative measures against such risks and shed light on the legal recourse available in such circumstances. In tandem with our educational efforts, we adorned the school premises with vibrant posters elucidating the principles of food safety, aimed at fostering a lasting impression on the young minds of Buwanekaba Maha Vidyalaya.

As stewards of positive change, it is both our honour and privilege, as the Leo Club of University of Colombo, to spearhead initiatives of such societal significance. We remain committed to nurturing a generation equipped with the knowledge and values necessary to steward a healthy and prosperous future. With boundless optimism, we extend our heartfelt wishes for the continued well-being and prosperity of the future custodians of our world.
