Conquering Wewathanna: A Leo Club Adventure with Leadership Lessons

The rooster hadn't even crowed when 30 bleary-eyed Leos, a mix of regime members, club members, and enthusiastic adventurers, piled into a bus at the Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Colombo. Our destination: Wewathanna, Madamahanuwara, a scenic mountain range calling us for its first-ever Leo Club Venture Camp.

Our pre-dawn departure was fueled by a mix of nervous excitement and the promise of an unforgettable experience. As the miles ticked by, conversation flowed like a mountain stream, breaking the early morning silence. This wasn't just a journey to a campsite; it was the beginning of a leadership odyssey.

By 10 am, we reached our rest stop, a welcome break before tackling the main event - the hike. The trek to Wewathanna wasn't a silent, single-file affair. It was a symphony of laughter, shared stories, and friendly banter, forging stronger bonds within the group. We learned that true leadership isn't just about giving orders; it's about motivating and encouraging those around you.

Reaching Wewathanna around 4 pm felt like conquering a personal Everest. Setting up camp became a collaborative effort, a testament to the teamwork fostered throughout the day. As the embers of the campfire crackled to life, casting dancing shadows in the twilight, we delved into the heart of the Venture Camp: leadership development activities.

Discussions, games, and shared experiences illuminated the essence of leadership. We discovered that leadership isn't about a title; it's about inspiring others, fostering collaboration, and adapting to challenges. The campfire wasn't just a source of warmth; it was a crucible where leadership qualities were forged.

The night unfolded under a blanket of stars, filled with laughter, delicious meals, and a deepening sense of camaraderie. Waking up to the misty sunrise over Wewathanna was a sight straight out of a fairytale. The beauty of nature served as a powerful reminder of resilience and the importance of protecting our environment.

With heavy hearts, we captured the memories in photographs before bidding farewell to our temporary home. Leaving Wewathanna, we carried more than souvenirs. We carried the lessons learned, the bonds strengthened, and the spirit of leadership that had blossomed throughout the journey.

This Leo Venture Camp wasn't just about reaching a mountain peak. It was about scaling new heights of leadership, together. The echoes of laughter and crackling campfire may have faded, but the lessons learned will continue to guide us, one adventure at a time.

As like that, a beautiful journey has ended with unforgettable memories.
