Together as Humans 6.0 - Phase I "Skills for Tomorow"

"The future belongs to those who prepare for it today."

                                                                         - Malcolm X

On March 7, 2024, the Leo Club of the University of Colombo initiated the "Skills for Tomorrow" program at Lumbini College, Colombo 05, targeting students in grades 10, 11, and above who had completed Ordinary Level (OL) exams. The event commenced with a religious ceremony and a welcoming speech by the Deputy Principal, stressing the importance of skill development. Mr. Sunil Priyantha Rillagoda, Career Guidance Officer at the National Vocational Training Institute, delivered an insightful address on vocational training and career options.

The program's highlight was an informative vocational training session led by experienced professionals, offering practical skills relevant to the evolving job market. The Leo Club also generously donated a jigsaw machine and electric drill to Lumbini College, enhancing the school's infrastructure for vocational training. The project concluded with gratitude expressed to Mr. Rillagoda for his contributions.

Lumbini College students responded positively to the workshop, showing enthusiasm for vocational training and expressing interest in exploring programs offered by the Vocational Training Authority (VTA). This initiative not only equips students with future-oriented skills but also fosters partnerships with institutions like the VTA, setting the stage for a brighter future and a more skilled workforce in Sri Lanka.
