Sahurda Yathra 5.0-Third Phase
As the last phase of the project Sahurda Yathra 5.0, we recently embarked on project Diriya Yathra, intending to raise awareness about the challenges faced by people with disabilities and foster a more inclusive society.
This initiative
had two key aspects: Spreading awareness of the disabled to avoid
discrimination and empowering the differently-abled.
We published a paper article in the Daily News-Sunday Observer newspaper on the 29th of March 2024 to educate the community about the experiences of people with disabilities. We invited Mr. Ishan Jalil, the Founder and the Chairman of Ability for Action to share his thoughts on this topic to encourage disabled people and make the community more inclusive. The speciality is Mr. Ishan also representing the differently-abled community. We interviewed Mr. Ishan to motivate the disabled by letting him share his own experience of overcoming challenges as a differently-abled person. This article covered topics such as the challenges that disabled people face in daily life, how these issues are solved by themselves, and the importance of creating a barrier-free environment. We believe that empowering people with disabilities with knowledge and resources helps them overcome obstacles and achieve their full potential.

We also
distributed leaflets in the Bandaragama area. These leaflets contained
motivational messages and resources to help the differently abled to achieve
their goals. Additionally, they addressed the issue of discrimination against
differently-abled people and encouraged recipients to advocate for them and
their rights.
Sahurda Yathra
5.0 committee believes that this initiative has had a positive impact on our
community. By raising awareness, we hope to have broken down some barriers and
created a more welcoming environment for people with disabilities.
Additionally, by empowering individuals with disabilities, we hope to have
ignited a sense of self-belief and motivated them to pursue their dreams.
We extend our
heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed their valuable effort to Diriya
Yathra.
Together, we can
create a world where everyone has the chance to thrive.

Leo Rashmi
Jayasinghe.
