Theertha- 3rd Phase of Project Kruthaguna 5.0 Through ‘’Theertha’’ the 3rd phase of project Kruthaguna 5.0, we needed to uplift the moral, emotional wellbeing of the elders residing in St. Joseph’s Elders Home. Elders should be given the opportunity to express their inner feelings; happiness, feeling of loneliness, love with the crowd around them. Rev. Sister Superior Sajeewani provided us the information and through her guidance we were able to identify the major needs of the elders residing in this place. On 22nd April 2023, our team went there with full of hopes and we were able to donate essential dry rations, few essential medicine and other materials which were needed for this place. After the Covid pandemic they had been unable to interact with the outsiders. They were so pleased when we arrived. Rev. sisters look after them with loving kindliness. Since they’ve been deprived to live with their families, we needed to make them feel they are valuable, important age group in the

ALPHABETZ – “Learn Today for Better Tomorrow” "Alphabetz" is a six-phase project organised by the Leo Club of the University of Colombo. This ongoing project which started last November was completed in six phases by April 2023. Also as Leos, from this project, we have decided to re-ignite the route of young children's English understanding, which was stolen due to several social and economic challenges which occurred in Sri Lanka in the recent past. As the Leo Club of the University of Colombo Leo District 306 C1, we opt for CP/M/ Laliambe Primary School for this endeavour because children in this school are from low-income families who found it difficult to learn. We chose kids in grades three, four, and five. Our purpose was to present them with knowledge that was not uniform. The basic facts that children need to know about the English language have been covered in this workshop while discussing it. We conducted a variety of activities during this program. Little chi

Therefore in this phase, we chose a school where students from low-income families and we decided to donate stationery to them. As Leos, we want to provide a solution and give back to the education of these students. We selected Diamond Jubilee School in Panadura. About 201 students are attending this school. When we first visited the principal of the school, we inquired about the necessary school supplies that students required. Miles of Smiles 4.0 phase 2 Children may benefit significantly from organized athletics in terms of their physical health, cognitive development, psychological health, and social interaction. Children who participate in sports develop emotional regulation skills and learn to use their negative emotions for positive purposes. Children who participate in athletics improve their resilience and self-confidence. Additionally, cricket is one of the most popular sports in Sri Lanka and has an enormous following. All youngsters dream to play cricket during their time in school, but some of them cannot realize their aspirations. This is Miles of Smile 4.0's second phase, which primarily focuses on young people who aspire to be all-around athletes. Every child has a different set of dreams; they are not all the same. We try to temper the sporting dreams of some children because some want to be teachers, some want to be athletes, and some want to be artists. In order to realize these childre

Sureki Hetak 6.0 phase 03 People experience both permanent disabilities and death as a result of railway accidents. People use trains more frequently in developing nations like Sri Lanka because they can do so for a lower cost. Government employees use the train to travel to their jobs, particularly when season tickets are available to students. In Sri Lanka, the supply of rail transportation does not meet the demand. Train accidents frequently occur as a result of negligent behaviour by passengers and overcrowding on the train. As Leos, We identified several railway stations where such accidents may occur and organised the project “Sureki Hetak 6.0 phase 03" for displaying warning boards to protect people from train accidents. These warning banners were installed at the railway stations at Enderamulla, Batuwatta, Bulugahagoda, Yagoda, and Nugegoda on March 31st, 2023. We had to get permission from the railway department for this and with the railway department's approval, a

Sidunala Raksha 6.0 – Phase III As a country surrounded by the Indian Ocean, Sri Lanka owns an amazingly eye-catching coastline which has significantly valuable biodiversity as well. Even though Sri Lanka's diversity is eye-catching, Sri Lanka has been ranked 173rd among island countries in the "Ocean Health Index 2020". It indicates the worsening of ecosystem health. This is the reason which provided the background for the last phase of Sindu Nala Raksha to be carried out offshore under the subcategory of Life below water. If we consider our selected area: Kudawella beach – Tangalle, it is significantly important in the case of biodiversity matters as well as in surfing and tourism. We researched the area in the morning before the commencement of clean-up. During that, we witnessed the habitats and footprints of crabs, seabirds and especially turtles. According to the information we gathered and experienced from various resource persons and environmental authorities, t

Sindu Nala Raksha 6.0 – Phase 2 “It’s nature itself that creates the most beautiful pictures, we are only choosing the perspective.” - Katja Michael - The goal of photography is to freeze a moment in time. When it comes to wildlife photography, the beauty of it is that you can’t control the elements of the surroundings, including the weather, light, and animal behaviour. With Sindu Nala Raksha 6.0, we aimed to inspire local wildlife enthusiasts and draw attention to the wildlife. ALPHABETZ – “Learn Today for Better Tomorrow” Knowledge opens the door to opportunity, achievement, success and wealth. English is an essential component in today's world. This is primarily because the current English and literacy framework stimulates the growth of critical and creative thinking as well as interpersonal, collaborative, and personal skills that are essential in both personal and professional settings. Because of past social and economic problems in Sri Lanka, opportunities for economically disadvantaged children to develop such language skills are extremely limited. As social activists, Leos are eager to find as many answers to these issues as possible. Therefore, the Leo Club of the University of Colombo Leo District 306 C1 selected Ambatale Tikiri Kumara Vidyalaya Mulleriyawa for this action where children face economic difficulties and face very difficulties in studying. From this way, we completed the 5th step of our ongoing series of projects on March 22, 202

Helping Hands – Project Kruthaguna 5.0 Senior citizens are an integral part of a country. Sri Lanka is one of the fastest-aging countries in the world. As a developing country, 12.3% of the population is aged 55 or older in Sri Lanka, making it the country with the highest proportion of older adults in South Asia. They are a needed and valued community in our society. Currently Sri Lanka is facing a huge economic crisis. With the county’s foreign reserves depleted, the nationalized healthcare system cannot afford to import medicine and medical supplies in sufficient quantities. Sri Lanka relies on imports for about 85% of its pharmaceutical needs and about 80% of its medical supplies. Therefore, most of the hospitals in Sri Lanka lack medicines to treat their patients. This has highly affected the health of the citizens over 55 years as they face many health conditions with their age. Considering all these issues, drug donation is very effective to avoid drug shortage to some extent. I

දියණි 6.0 – “දැයේ දියණියන් උදෙසා” පළමුවන අදියර - ලිය අභිමාන Emma Watson once said, “it is time that we all see gender as a spectrum instead of two sets of opposing ideals”. Hence there is a need to motivate girls and women to pursue their goals and success by overcoming gender stereotypes and preconceptions. And also, women in Sri Lankan society face a variety of difficulties in their daily life. Out of all of these difficulties, the issue of "violence against women" in the modern world has to be brought to society's notice. As Leos, we took the initiative to provide an opportunity for individuals to express their own ideas on gender equality and raise awareness about gender equality in the Sri Lankan context and about protecting women’s and girls’ rights against violence through digital media. We as Leo Club of University of Colombo, Leo District 306 C1, conducted the first phase of project Diyani 6.0 “Liya Abhimana” during the months of February and March 2023, under t
