Prarthana 5.0 1st Phase
Leo Club of the University of Colombo has organized the project "Prarthana 5.0" under the project category of "Peace, Religious, and Cultural Activities" for the fifth consecutive year. The primary goal of implementing the "Prarthana 5.0" project is to provide the community with the necessary understanding to improve harmony and overcome communication barriers between different religions, cultures, customs, and communities by flourishing religious reconciliation and coexistence in society. This project consists of three phases.
The first phase of the project "Prarthana 5.0", was decided to empower Sri Lankan children who suffer from English and Tamil language communication difficulties which is a common problem in society. Improving theoretical and practical knowledge of these two languages by conducting seminars for the children was the foremost objective to be achieved through this phase. The project committee created a unique way to give better theoretical and practical knowledge. They used question papers and friendly discussion sessions to provide opportunities for speaking practice. Also, they taught special techniques for speaking correctly in languages.
The project committee decided to hold two seminars on-site to help the children improve their English and Tamil skills. As planned, the project committee invited two resource persons, government teachers Ms. Supuni Rajapakshe and R. Subhashini Jayasekara. They happily accepted the invitation to be a part of this program. In the meantime, the project flyers were shared on social media platforms to make the general public aware of the project. The first phase of the project was successfully completed on November 17, 2022, at the MR/Siri Panjhalankara Junior College from 8 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. During the speaking training sessions, students actively participated and improved their communication skills. At the end of the seminar, some students and teachers gave us positive feedback about the seminar. The principal of the school gave a speech to thank the organizing committee and the Leo Club of UOC for selecting his school to conduct this program. He also stated that this program helps his children to communicate fluently and without fear of the language.
As planned, the first phase of the project "Prarthana 5.0" was successfully completed, and we achieved the objective of the project by having the children improve their knowledge and show their abilities during the seminar.
