Project One Drop 5.0 – Phase 02
Contamination of water sources suitable for human consumption has become an acute problem in Sri Lanka. The One Drop 5.0 project, organized for the fifth time by the Leo Club of the University of Colombo, has succeeded in finding a solution to this problem.
As the second phase of this project, a program was implemented to clean the area around a selected waterfall in Sri Lanka and make water sources suitable for the people. For this purpose, Imaduwa Galle was chosen to clean the area around Puswelkada Falls. The cleaning work around this waterfall took place on the 22nd of April 2023 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. 15 people, including 10 Leo prospectors and 5 other outsiders, participated in this event.
This waterfall is used as the source to grant water in this area where nearly 50 families live. The removal of non-biodegradable wastes that have been released to the public in the area around this waterfall, the installation of environmentally friendly garbage bins, and the installation of notice boards to prevent the release of waste into the environment for this work implemented by the One Drop project, the president of the Imaduwa local council were appreciated by the officials and residents.
