Sindu Nala Raksha 6.0 – Phase 2

“It’s nature itself that creates the most beautiful pictures, we are only choosing the perspective.”

-  Katja Michael -

The goal of photography is to freeze a moment in time. When it comes to wildlife photography, the beauty of it is that you can’t control the elements of the surroundings, including the weather, light, and animal behaviour.

With Sindu Nala Raksha 6.0, we aimed to inspire local wildlife enthusiasts and draw attention to the wildlife. After the completion of the first phase successfully, which involved a volunteer program at the Pinnawala elephant orphanage, we planned to enhance public attention to wildlife by holding a photography competition in the second phase. The contest was entirely conducted via online platforms causing an increase in the number of participants.

The competition was divided into two categories: the most Eye-Catching photograph and the most popular photograph. The Most Eye-Catching photograph was selected by Mr. Ravisara Jayamanna, a well-known youthful wildlife photographer. He was the first Sri Lankan to appear on BBC Earth and Animal Planet, who consented to join as the judge for this competition.

The most popular photograph was selected by using Facebook social media. The photography album was released along with Wildlife Week on March 3rd. Three days after the contest ended, the winners were announced: Mr. SK Lokuliyana as the Most Eye-Catching photographer and Ms. DAK Mathotage as the Most Popular photographer. The Title Partner of the phase: "PC Cart-Kesbewa" rewarded the two lucky winners with valuable gift vouchers. We were able to raise our engagements more by conducting a boosting campaign thanks to our collaboration with "PC Cart -Kesbewa".

We are happy to say that by the end of the competition, we had achieved 19,444 post impressions, 14202 reaches and 4924 engagements with our project, effectively raising public awareness while providing enthusiastic wildlife photographers with a valuable opportunity in their photographic journey.

We would also like to express our sincere gratitude to Mr. Ravisara Jayamanna, who agreed to join as a judge, and to our title partner "PC Cart-Kesbewa", and to all the contestants that joined the competition. This is not the end of our journey. More efforts to conserve wildlife are coming, therefore keep an eye out.
